Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society‚Äôs signature activity.  Several teams take part in each relay, raising much-needed funds to fight cancer and raise awareness of cancer prevention and treatment.

While the Relay itself is a 24-hour event, fundraising is a year-round activity.  With over $4,000 raised last year, the annual Jingle Bell Run has become one of our largest single sources of donation funds.  Over the last several years, the Boardman Rotary Team has generated the largest contribution of any team at the Boardman event, raising in excess of $100,000.

The Youngstown State University Penguin Club has established ties to two outstanding charitable endeavors and will distribute proceeds from the Jingle Bell Run between the two.

The Carmine L. Cassese Scholarship at Youngstown State University was created in honor of Carmine Cassese, the third generation owner of Youngstown's MVR Restaurant, long-time equipment manager for the YSU football team and well-known supporter of community athletics. He lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 57 this past summer.

The James Center at The Ohio State University is one of the nation's leading comprehensive cancer centers and one of the only freestanding cancer hospitals in the midwest. Their goal is to facilitate groundbreaking discoveries that change the way the world diagnoses, treats and prevents cancer.
